The TRUTH about DACA and what is really happening.
Immigration reform is something the United States in desperate need of. It is also a very sensitive subject for many. So when it happens there will be a backlash, especially with the media attacking and twisting anything that comes out of the presidents or member of governments mouth. We as American’s have the responsibility to be knowledgeable about what is happening in our government and we ignorantly watch TV or search Facebook for our answers. We have to stop and ask questions find sources. So with this post, I am going to inform you to the best of my knowledge what is really happening when the media says “Trump is destroying DACA and deporting millions of Dreamers”.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an American immigration policy founded by the Obama administration in June 2012. This allowed minor illegal immigrants to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and could also receive a work permit. This was an executive order from former POTUS Obama. Executive orders are not laws and are not set in stone. An executive order is an order issued by the President that is enforceable by members of the executive branch and will only last as long as it is not overturned by the Executive or Judicial branch of government.
With that being said on June 16, 2017, The United States of Department of Homeland Security announced that it would rescind (revoke, cancel, or repeal) the executive order that expanded the DACA program. Trump’s administration has decided to turn DACA over to congress, congress is the legislative branch and is the only branch that can make laws. Trump has given Congress six months to legalize DACA and says he will revisit the issue in six months if they fail to do so.
What Trump is doing is making an easily overturned order and pushing it to be reformed and then into a law. Mass deportation is not happening. No matter how hard the media wants to believe as such.
We need to keep fighting for DACA, but we need to fight Congress to legalize it not attack our president for rescinding it. I think we are all on the truth side of the fence today.
