Ivanka Trump Sat in Fathers Seat at G-20 Leaders Meeting.
In case you don't know the G-20 (Group of Twenty) Leaders meeting was founded in 1999 in order to get the biggest economy leaders in the world to meet and discuss policy issues and promote international financial stability. The countries that are in the G-20 currently are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, and the European Union.
The G-20 Meeting was held this year on July 7th-8th. G-20 meetings are always met with thousands upon thousands of protesters. With Donald Trump attending the atmosphere was even more charged than normal. A picture was tweeted by a Russian official of Ivanka at the G-20 meeting. Donald Trump had to attend other meetings and asked Ivanka Trump to step in temporarily during a working session titled "Partnership with Africa, Migration, and Health" at the G-20 meeting. There is no word on how long she took the seat.
Trump critics were quick to...well criticize. They have said it was against protocol and very unprofessional. Why didn't a cabinet member or senior official step in? Why would we have an unelected official at a world leaders meeting?
Trump defended his daughter calling her a "champion" and stating on twitter that if it had been the Clinton's and Chelsea had done the same thing that "Fake News" would have said CHELSEA FOR PRESIDENT. Trump also explained that having someone else take the seat in an absence is very standard practice. There is no specific rule against it, generally, it is up to the country on who takes the seat in their absence.
After researching this and going over and over it on both sides, the bigger questions I have are, what was discussed at this meeting? Are improvements being made? Why is nobody asking these questions? Donald Trump was accused of nepotism and misjudgment letting an unelected official sit at a world leaders meeting. What side of the fence are you on?
